Micropayments Are Not For Most Of Us
Friday September 30th 2005, 11:26 am

In the world of billing schemes the novel idea emerged that it would be a good idea to charge the surfer just a little bit for every thing he downloaded. Download a movie from me pay me a nickel, download a picture gimmie a penny, so on and so forth. Its not new, its old. Its been dubbed “Pay As You Go

There has been an ongoing attempt to get acceptance for it now for at least five years, it finally hit pay dirt in the realm of VOD and MP3 sales. Ambition being a never ending resource some people have even greater aspirations for the adoption of its use to further monetize free adult sites.

There are the dreamers who say that it would be a great idea to charge customers every time they look at your TGP (yeah right!) The theory is that if they buy so many tokens then the net becomes just a big flea market. Users may roam to whatever site they please and just spend spend spend.

I love niches, and believe me this is a niche billing concept. What i dont like is people trying to use a teacup for a bread basket. This has to be the silliest ideas i have ever heard of. To understand why its so idiotic you have to truely understand the psychology of surfers. Not only this you must understand the minds of webmasters as well.

Allow me to elaborate:

1. Competitve Disadvantage, BIG disadvantage to try and charge people for content that used to be free. Or to try and charge them for content they can get somewhere else for free. Or to try and force them into an esotic billing model they know little about.

2. Customer trust, none of the major billing companies are offering tokens as an alternative to credit cards and checks. The only company i would trust at this point is paypal and they have washed their hands of adult. So as a customer who must we demand they give their trust to now in order to view content?

3. Perspective, The content of most adult sites is either over exposed or exclusive. There is no incentive to offer micropayments for over exposed content, the best bet here is to tease and sell. For exclusives the lack of incentive here is perhaps the largest by far, why micropay when you can charge a premium.

4. Its still a credit card, at the end of the day the customer still has to bring out the credit card to buy credits.

Conclusion - You Cant Have Your Cake And Eat It Too
You are just giving up your profits to another third party, in this case perhaps hundreds. Yes that right just because someone buys credits to see your site doesnt mean he has to spend them all to see your stuff. So imagine the ad dollars and time spent by you to create a sell of tokens. Only for someone else like me to come along and figure out a way to advertise directly to token owners and benefit from your efforts.

You like sharing dont you? Not me i still like taking candy from small children and re-using aluminium.

At the end of the day the market decides what will work, but im advising all clients not to use this as a primary billing method. And not to use this as a billing method at all on premium products. It is still very experimental.

Thats all for now!

Dialup Movies In A Broadband World
Monday September 19th 2005, 8:06 am

The conept of tiny downloadable movies is starting to seem really old and really boring.
In this day and age where most people can download a 25mb file in 5 minutes who really wants tiny clips?

We must provide high quality entertainment customers like so much they pay for more!
10 – 10 second long low quality movies tightly compressed is just not hot!

Its a pain in the ass to download alot of little movies +
They end up looking like shit! – yet this is the industry norm!

Its no wonder many take to P2P and other alternatives for immediate gratification.
Most movie galleries are low quality and leave the average viewer unsastifised.

As prices on bandwidth keep dropping and broadband grows broader things will change.
This practice of tiny low quality clips is nearing the end of its life cycle.
Lets just wait and see.

Thats all for now!

AOL & MSN To Play MiniMe To Google’s Goliath

There is a wonderful rumour floating about that AOL and MSN are currently contemplating running away together.

This would be a blow to Google which has for some time now been the bed-mate of AOL-search.

Many people see this as the best way for the under dog Microsoft (i suppose its not a typo) to increase its share of the search engine market. If these two decide to consumate a deal MSN will command 18% of the search engine market.

My Opinion: The more competition for Google in its core business the better. Since almost every user of the internet starts his or her session with a visit to a popular search engine its best if there is not a single dominant portal.

Why?: Organic search efforts targetted at multiple engines will yield higher results, right now most people optimize for google. If this deal happens those that optimize for MSN will reap new found rewards.

Rare Act Of Humility In A Worthless Society
Friday September 16th 2005, 8:44 am

In an industry choked with arrogance and ego I am pleased to see that there are still a few level headed affilate program owners online.

Recently i received an email from Bill at Porn Mega Bucks In it he states how he made an emotional decision in error by removing free hosted galleries being used by affiliates.

Simply removing those galleries was his response to the 2257 threat.

He could have just kept quiet and stole as much as he could while at the same time posting a message or some such which stated what we was doing. This would have allowed him to increase his revenue while at the same time giving him the protection of having made an attempt to inform webmasters.

Instead he has made a vow to repay affiliates for the error, i have no doubt he will make good on that pledge.

For those interested the letter is attached below, Otherwise.

Thats all for now!

————————————————————————————————————
Hello all,

Recently in auditing our hosted galleries I came across some that I
could not get my hands on the docs from the content publishers. Since
right now we have exactly ZERO images in our member areas (we are
using a bunch of image gallery plugins from various providers).

I kind of freaked out in a panic stricken way and renamed the galleries
that had content we would not be able to get IDs from the publishers /
vendors.

That would have taken surfers to a regular ole 404 page except for the
fact that I changed the .htaccess some time ago to take 404s to AFF. (I
was sending several domains to various programs on the 404s when
June 23rd rolled around because I had sites so old that the content
providers were selling production stills and wouldn’t be able to provide
IDs for any of that, so rather than fix the sites with new content, I
deleted them) I deleted 1000s of sites, many of the AVS sites. I had
some of those sites on the hosted gallery domain.

An extremely stupid error on my part and I will think of a way to fully
compensate those that were sending traffic to my panic mode fuck up.

I couldn’t steal from someone and sleep right, so please accept this as
a formal apology.

I’m working on the hosted galleries with new content to get them all
back working again this week, next week early at the latest if I hump it.

I’m very embarrassed, and very sorry.

Thanks

Sin Tax?
Thursday September 15th 2005, 5:43 pm

For years now there has been a popular movement to increase taxes on everything from alcohol to tobacco to gambling.

This is a quick and easy way for states to raise more money. Essentially its exploiting the soft addictions allowed by the federal government. These little “nasty” habits are seen as socially unnecessary or unacceptable.

Since the general population looks down on these activities its easier to levy higher taxes on them.

The next proud member of this group of “Sins” is apparently adult oriented business. Since it is apparently unsociable to have sexual desires, its ideal for those things to have higer taxes.

This is a bit absurd in my opinion not just because i operate adult related companies. Its just the implications of such a broad reaching blanket statement such as “sin” can easiliy be abused.

Its like a “War On Terror” or a “War On Drugs” this new “War On Sin” is just another way to monetize these very same activites in a positive way for state and federal agencies.

Wouldnt it just be great to block out all adult related material in the country foreign or domestic. Not to worry its not about free speach, you can have an adult site but first you need to register.

Get your special internet porn ghetto address lets say a .xxx perhaps and pay your federal adult operating licensing fees and your good to go.

Sure this it may sound far fetched but China blocks out alot of outside and internal web sites for their users, and the feds could certainly use a boost in funds. Not to mention the fact that the christian evangelicals would certainly love to keep this whole healthy adult sexuality thing under wraps.

Lets hope for the best, but it is something to think about.

Thats all for now.

ICQ spam alive and well

If i had a product.
The first thing i would do.
Is load up ICQ.
And spam you!

. . . . At least thats what the agenda of the desperate seems to be these days.
I cant argue enough the reasons why this method of affiliate building is counter productive.
If you actually take the time to cultivate a few good relationships with useful people you will do much better.

I know your just starting out and you think everyone is like you and in love with your product.

Fact is your stuff just isnt really that good.

Its really poorly put together and the content is shabby, it doesnt even look like you bothered to spend 20$ on lighting.

Of course theres the chance you will get yourself together.

Fact of the matter is I hope you do.

And once you have arrived, over months of tweaking and tuning.

Take a bit of those profits and spend it on advertising your program.

Or if you want to do it on the cheap write some articles, whore on some boards, or stalk radio show hosts.

Im sure people want to hear from you, after all you just invented the worlds best product and thats why you spammed me on ICQ.

Thats all for now.

Print Interviews Are Dead In The Online ERA
Wednesday September 14th 2005, 7:52 am

Urgent: If your website is the unfortunate residence of text only interviews and articles your potential to reach clients and deliver your message is being curbed!

Note: It is a known fact most internet users skim and choose not to read ( do some searches on Google see for yourself )

Suggestion: Utilize the power of the human voice and if possible moving images to deliver your message faster and more accurately.

Howto: Its relatively easy these days to record teleconfrences and relay them either as live radio events or archive them for download.

Question: Do you think that people read articles and interviews online more than once?

Question: When was the last time you listend to a piece of audio more than once in a single day? If you listen to the radio the answer is everyday.

Both Worlds: If you can, create text transcripts of your content for those that still like to read such things. This will be good for search engines.

Reality Check: Multiple mediums of delivery equates to mutliple streams of income from multiple advertising sources

Thats all for now!

Supply And Demand In A Synthetic Marketplace
Wednesday September 14th 2005, 1:41 am

Logic: When supply exceeds demand more demand must be created
Logic: Demand may be increased by decreasing price or increasing value

Question: Why then is it that traffic brokers are having trouble adopting this pattern?

Answer: Greed?

Logic: It would seem that in the coming months prices are likely to drop on some traffic sources but not others.

News: Prices just went up at Ask Jolene this is unfortunate, while although keyword targetting through their system is wonderful there are no options for geo-targetting.

Question: Whats better 200,000 raw hits from english speaking citzens in the people republic of china targetted by keyword, or 50,000 geo targetted raw hits from citizens in the United States?

Answer: ???

Question: Why buy from the retailer if you can buy from the wholesaler?

Answer: The only time when its logical to buy from the retailer at prime prices when there is a surplus of desired product is when the marketplace is manipulated through synthetic means.

Axiom: Brokers, are thus named for their ability to make those they interact with broker than before they conducted business.

Note: Extra ketchup packets are 5 cents a piece, sarcasim is free.

Thats all for now.
